Amari
The Amari
South Asia
The Amari are a large unreached people in South Asia, shaped by a fertile homeland, strong family ties, and a treasured language and culture. They are known for resilience, deep community life, and a spiritual world shaped by tradition, honor, and the search for blessing and peace.
Many Amari live under the weight of poverty, displacement, and natural disasters. Followers of Jesus are exceedingly few. Outside assistance has attempted to alleviate some of the physical strife, yet is rarely coupled with sharing the Hope of Jesus. And when that message has been shared, it has often arrived without a deep understanding of the Amari world to truly connect.
A Good News Story
One Amari woman, Zaira, came to faith through local believers and endured severe physical and emotional abuse at home. Yet as her husband watched her life, he saw a peace he could not explain. He began reading the Bible and was drawn to the love and forgiveness of Jesus. Today, Zaira and her husband lead a fellowship among their own people.
The opportunity is clear: to pray for the Amari and to come alongside indigenous believers as they make Jesus known in ways their own people can hear and receive.
